The Acer Aspire One 522 with AMD's new Fusion Ontario processor is now up for pre-order at Amazon.com for $330. For that price you will get a 1GHz C-50 AMD Ontario processor, Radeon HD 6250 graphics, 1GB of RAM and a 250GB hard drive.
The AMD Ontario processors are for use in netbooks. None of the netbooks currently shipping has this APU, but in benchmark tests it has delivered significantly better than Intel's Atom processors. Needless to say almost every major PC maker has announced netbooks and notebooks with the Ontario and Zacate processors.
The Radeon HD 6250 that comes bundled with the Ontario and Zacate processors supports DirectX 11. It is also capable of handling 1080p HD video playback. And to take advantage of this featute the netbook has an HDMI port.
The Aspire One 522 has a 10.1 inch display. It runs Windows 7 Starter edition has comes with a 4400mAh battery which is expected to power the laptop for up to six hours on a charge. Other specifications include 3 USB 2.0 ports, WiFi 802.11b/g/n, built-in webcam and a multi-in-1 digital media card reader. No firm shipping date is available as of now.
